Reality is merely and Illusion

A project I had to redo for assessment.

It was based around the Einstein quote 'Reality is merely an Illusion' After extensive amounts of research which only confused me and pushed me to the edge of my own reality (drama) I decided to approach it in a light hearted manner, focussing on our perceived relationships with inanimate objects.

The Illustration tells a story of a boy and his relationship with his red hat. Would like to re do this again with a better constructed narrative, and a collection of different objects.

Before parting uni to spend our christmas holidays fattening up and warming by the fire.

We received a live brief from the publishing company Puffin for one of their children's magazines which is called Puffin Post.

Puffin Post is a magazine designed for 9+ year olds and is full of tasty things that 9+ year olds like to read about. We were asked to design and illustrate a front cover for one of their new issues this year. The winner gets sweet ass gold puffin badge and a tasty sum of £150 in book vouchers.

We had a brief set for 3 weeks by the man himself George Hardie, the aim of the game was to make 5 books for under 5 pounds, with the idea that they could potentially be reproduced again at some point to make some MONIES or for just general niceness.

I decided awhile back I wanted to play around with the context of lyrics, mainly lyrics of a Rap or RnB origin, taking away the music, melody or backing track that makes them SO GOD DAMN CATCHY.

So anyway I created these 5 'poetry books' which depicted the following artist as famous well respected poets.

Cardozar Calvin Broadus (Snoop Dogg)

Christopher Maurice Brown (Chris Brown)

Curtis James Jackson the III (50 Cent)

Melissa Arnette Elliott (Missy Elliott)

Kimberly Denise Jones (Lil Kim)

Each book contains a bio about their upbringing and poetic writings career, by taking snippets of the lyrics and laying them out in a classical style poetry book, it allowed the reader to see the lyrics in a solitary and simple enivorment. For every artist I created a 'logo' type pattern which ran through the book, I also created the logo at the top for a fake publishing company called Ric 'n' Bovril.

George like it, and apparently (including another book) was one of the rudest books on the table, oh yes

I have setup a new blog, check it out and stalk it.

It is based around a purchase I made today while at the local carboot sale down at the Brighton Marina. Lovely.

"Before sinking my teeth into a Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin meal, I made the purchase of £1 for this little beauty.

Upon reading, it revealed itself to be a homemade recipe book, dating way back to the 1942's. Filled with mostly puddings and sweet treats with a few meat dishes hiding themselves on the back pages , I am going to attempt to recreate this book of recipes on a weekly basis.

George Hayford TayLAD did some super sick, make your own temple out of Lino patterns and blocks, that he designed himself. So I decided to do one, which in turn inspired me to pursue my first ventures into Lino, I was feeling pretty good about not cutting myself, until I full on stabbed the tool into my middle finger.

Today consisted of helping out on 24 hour Mural project for Children In Need, organised byDan Woodger and co, its shaping up well, and if you happen to be at Brighton Uni tomorrow please contribute a drawing to the madness! There will also be a private view for the work done under the brief 'when I grow up...' on Thursday at Brighton University, with work from all years of graphic design and illustration, check the event here. What could be done. It was questioned through and through, I only knew the gist of what a know now, and the gist was merely a ball with no golf club in this situation ' the substance or the essence of speech' said the dictionary. It was certainly no whole in one. There was a hole in one, a jumper I was wearing. It seeped anger juice from its thready anchors, these anchors held on to the creation of Terry Dactle. Terry found this amusing and merely made his way back to spain.

The journey was long, but peanuts were a plenty.

I walked out the door this morning and embraced the beauty of the world around me, when suddenly I noticed something strange. It wasn't strange in an uncomfortable kind of way, it was more like something was slightly different. So, I took a deep breathe and went up and talked to them. They turned round as I said 'Hello' and nodded to acknowledge me. It had been over a year since I had seen them, let alone noticed I existed!! It made me feel as though. I was walking into a day dream, it really didn't feel realistic enough to be my life. More like a scene in a film. i thought back to what had happened between me and them, for what must have been the thousandth time, let me tell you what happened.

It all began on a day in late June. I remember the moment I woke up and how rain was stroking my window, the kind of rain that reminded you of children's tears, but through the haze I saw them: Caldor, Millarbri and Saskia. I was surpised because I could have sworn they had moved away the summer before.

(I HAVE WANTED TO WRITE IN THIS BLOODY BOOK ALL NIGHT!!! GORDON BENNET SHOULD SUCK A FAT DICK!!!! THIS IS MATT!! LOVE THIS SHIT!! BRUVA THIS IS SICK!! I LOVE BRIGHTON AND EVERYONE ON OUR COURSE!!)

But that's not what the main point was, it was the fact a wolf was eating a battery under my legs. Gosh. That was strange. But then again, so was your face.

So we went for dinner because the battery and wolf moment was oh so profound , I took you to a kebab shop and brought you chips and curry sauce you swore at me. Loudly. And started me thinking. Why, oh why, had I gotten myself into this, way back in late June. I just wish I hadn't caught the dutch barman's eye. He intrigued me, with his thin mustache and subtle innuendos. I felt perfectly comfortable in his company, until he to me back to his flat. It only started with the bath sponge, the wine the splashing about. But ended with some sort of yoga induced foamy tomfoolery . He suddenly turned to me and said 'Oh my gosh you look really sexual. I love you toes. I wish I could scrub them'

So we scrubbed. And scrubbed. Scrubbing was a laugh, but not as fulfilling as promised.

No Go Gocco

Myself and my good friend Chloe Hannah FREAKING Taylor recently purchased a Riso Print Gocco home printing kit from ebay. This was created in the 1970's in Japan and has then since been discontinued, not because of lack of sales apparently, but due to the flash bulbs having harmful chemicals in, which is something we failed to find out about till after we bought it.

Here is a collection of misprints, it would be good to say these were just one off failures, but due to my incompetence thesee are the best we have ! So far. It's a learning experience.

Over the summer we were asked to keep a visual diary everyday. Not going to lie, I found it quite difficult feeling pressure that the image had to be a top notch final piece kind of material. I also made it really easy for myself by getting an A3 sketch book, thank god for ultra cool modern white space.
